How Do I Vote?

Your vote, your way!

One person, one vote. East Gwillimbury voters can choose one method to cast their ballot for the 2022 Municipal Election. For example, if you vote online, you cannot vote in-person and vice versa. Information on how, where and when you can vote is below:

Didn’t receive a Voter Information Letter (VIL)?

If you haven’t received your VIL, your name is not on the Municipal Voters’ List. If you still need to register to vote, visit a voting location on October 24 from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. or the Voter Help Centre located at the Civic Centre for assistance. Remember to bring a piece of identification with you. 

Election Day (In-person)

October 24 from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m.

  • Vote in-person using a paper ballot at the voting location assigned to you within your ward

Assistive Voting Technology is available by appointment on Election Day, Monday, October 24 from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. at the East Gwillimbury Civic Centre. To book an appointment contact the Elections team at elections@eastgwillimbury.ca or (289) 580-9774.

Identification will be required to vote in-person, by paper ballot at a Advance Vote location and on Election Day. Remember to bring one or more piece(s) of identification showing your name and qualifying East Gwillimbury address. Your VIL cannot be used as a piece of ID. Online Voting 

October 8 to October 23 at noon

  • Vote anytime, anywhere using a computer, tablet, or smartphone
  • Vote online using a secured Town-owned equipment at any of the advance voting locations starting October 8 at 10 a.m. to October 23 at 12 p.m.

Vote online at a Voter Help Centre, during regular business hours from October 10 to 21.

How can you vote online?

Online voting is a secure, convenient, and accessible voting method that allows residents to vote using a smartphone, tablet or computer anytime, anywhere. To cast your ballot online:

  • Visit the secure website included in your VIL
  • Enter your Voting PIN and personal information
  • Vote

Online voting reminders:

  • Never share your Voting PIN. It’s personal and no one should ever ask you for it.
  • It’s illegal to vote with or open a VIL that isn’t addressed to you.
  • If you receive a VIL for someone who no longer lives at your property, do not open the letter. Instead, write Return to Sender on the envelope and drop it off at the nearest mailbox.
  • If you receive multiple VILs addressed to you, contact the Voter Help Line at (289) 580-9774 or email elections@eastgwillimbury.ca. Voters may only vote once and must return any additional VILs to the Municipal Office.
  • Contact EG’s Elections team if you lose your VIL or are asked to share your Voting PIN.

Advance Voting (Online or in-person)

Vote in-person using a paper ballot or online using a secure computer at any advance voting location: 

  • Holland Landing Community Centre, 19513 Yonge St., Holland Landing 
  • East Gwillimbury Sports Complex, 1914B Mount Albert Rd., Sharon
  • Ross Family Complex, 19300 Centre St., Mount Albert

Voter Accessibility 

Assistive Voting Technology is available by appointment at the Civic Centre during the Advance Voting period and on Election Day for voters who require support with casting their ballot. For more information, please visit the Accessibility page.

Voter Information Letter

Eligible voters on the Voters' List will receive their credentials by mail in their Voter Information Letter (VIL) to vote online or in-person. Voters without access to a device, internet or who did not receive a VIL may visit a Voter Help Centre (VAC) to vote online at a Town Internet Voting Station or to be added to the Voters' List and be issued a Voter Information Letter to cast their ballot at a designated voting location during advance vote period or on election day.

The VIL contains detailed instructions on how to cast your ballot in-person or online. Voters are reminded to not share their VIL with anyone, including any candidates.

If you did not receive a VIL, your name is not on the Municipal Voters’ List. Please visit the Voter Help Centre or contact EG's Elections Team by email or phone, at (289) 580-9774 to register.
